Cyber Monday at Consumer Crafts! | Wee Share

So... it's that crazy shopping time of the year!? Did any of you head out to do any Black Friday shopping?? This is actually the first time in five years I have stayed home.? I needed absolutely nothing and there are no good craft stores nearby, so I decided to get some much needed sleep.

I am, however, taking advantage of the awesome deals online.? I bought some PDF sewing patterns as well as a few extra gifts for my daughter.? Plus, I am pretty certain my husband might have used that discount code I shared with him to purchase a fun crafty machine for me... we'll see!

Today, I have been browsing over at ConsumerCrafts.com because it's the last day of their Doorbuster Deals.? Plus, the ENTIRE site is 30% off!? I can always use more craft supplies {can't we all?} and I have my eye on several of their deals:

Yes... I have a Cricut, but I have been wanting one of these Silhouette Cameo machines for quite a while.? They don't require cartridges at all. Instead, simply connect the Silhouette Cameo to your computer and choose your designs.? You only purchase and download the specific designs you want {plus, I've seen some nice free ones floating around}.? The possibilities are limitless, really.?
Ever since I used Angela's Cuttlebug, I have been smitten.? This handy little machine easily embosses paper, adding texture to scrapbook pages, cards, and other paper projects.? It's fun and easy to use {though a bit heavy}.? I know we could come up with all sorts of creative ways to use this!
Raileigh loves dressing up more than just about anything else.? Well... besides reading.? But, then again, she will often read while dressed up!? So, many of her Christmas gifts revolve around those two things!? I was blown away when I saw these fairy wings.? They are less than $2!? I don't know is you've shopped for fairy wings before, but that is a steal!
For the past several years, we have had the same Christmas mantle-- an assortment of snow globes we've collected over the years.? However, a lot of those snow globes are now over 10 years old.? And, just in case you didn't know-- snow globes don't age well.? They now contain snow globs instead of snow flakes and the pieces inside many have shifted.? This year, I plan on laying some fresh garland, and I think this 5-piece votive set would look lovely sitting amongst the garland.
Raileigh enjoys puppets.? She'll crouch beside the chair while I work and put on puppet shows for me.? This darling kit would be a fun seasonal craft for us, and it would be one she'd enjoy playing with afterwards as well!? I highly suspect that Rudolph and Bumble might be part of puppet shows year round at my house!

I also want to share a few other special sales and exciting announcements you might be interested in.

  • Currently, there is a Silhouette Cameo GIVEAWAY going on at Crafts Unleashed {the Consumer Crafts blog}.? It ends in a few days, so enter now!

Clashes in Cairo after Egypt's president seizes new powers

CAIRO (Reuters) - Angry youths hurled rocks at security forces and burned a police truck as thousands gathered in central Cairo to protest at Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi's decision to grab sweeping new powers.

Police fired tear gas near Tahrir Square, heart of the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak at the height of the Arab Spring. Thousands demanded that Mursi should quit and accused him of launching a "coup".

There were also violent protests in Alexandria, Port Said and Suez.

Mursi on Thursday issued a decree that puts his decisions beyond any legal challenge until a new parliament is elected. Opponents immediately accused him of turning into a new Mubarak and hijacking the Egyptian revolution.

"This is the point of no return for Mursi. He has dug himself deeper in a hole and won't know how to get out of it," said Ahmed Saleh, an activist who said many would stay in Tahrir square until Mursi withdrew the decree.

"The people want to bring down the regime," shouted protesters in Tahrir, echoing a chant used in the uprising that forced Mubarak to step down.

The United States, the European Union and the United Nations expressed concern at Mursi's move.

Mursi's rivals condemned him as an autocratic pharaoh who wanted to impose his Islamist vision on Egypt.

The president's aides said the decree was intended to speed up a protracted transition to democracy that has been hindered by legal obstacles

"I am for all Egyptians," Mursi said on a stage outside the presidential palace, adding that he was working for social and economic stability and remained committed to the revolution.

JUDGES MEET

Egyptian judges will meet on Saturday to respond to Mursi's move, which put him above the judicial oversight. The judges could threaten to go on strike, which would bring the judiciary to a halt.

Some non-Islamist political parties called for a million-strong march on Tuesday to demand that Mursi rescinds his decree.

But Islamist parties, including the Building and Development Party, accused Mursi's opponents of undermining the democratic process that brought him to office.

"Those calling for the downfall of President Mohamed Mursi have rejected democracy because President Mursi has been democratically elected by popular will," the party said in a statement. Mursi's decree would "save the revolution from the remnants of Mubarak's regime", it said.

Buoyed by accolades from around the world for mediating a truce between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip, Mursi on Thursday ordered that an Islamist-dominated assembly writing the new constitution could not be dissolved by legal challenges.

Mursi, an Islamist whose roots are in the Muslim Brotherhood, also gave himself wide powers that allowed him to sack the unpopular public prosecutor and opened the door for a retrial for Mubarak and his aides.

TURBULENCE AND TURMOIL

The president's decree has consolidated his power but looks set to polarize Egypt further, threatening more turmoil in a nation at the heart of the Arab Spring.

In Alexandria, north of Cairo, protesters ransacked an office of the Brotherhood's political party, burning books and chairs in the street. Supporters of Mursi and opponents clashed elsewhere in the city, leaving 12 injured.

A party building was attacked by stone-throwing protesters in Port Said, and demonstrators in Suez threw petrol bombs that burned banners outside the party building.

Although Washington has praised Egypt for its part in bringing Israelis and Palestinians to a ceasefire on Wednesday, it expressed reservations about Mursi's latest move.

"The decisions and declarations announced on November 22 raise concerns for many Egyptians and for the international community," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said in a statement.

The European Union urged Mursi to respect the democratic process, while the United Nations expressed fears about human rights.

"The decree is basically a coup on state institutions and the rule of law that is likely to undermine the revolution and the transition to democracy," said Mervat Ahmed, an independent activist in Tahrir protesting against the decree.

Leading liberal Mohamed ElBaradei, who joined other politicians on Thursday night to demand the decree was withdrawn, wrote on his Twitter account that Mursi had "usurped all state powers and appointed himself Egypt's new pharaoh".

Almost two years after Mubarak was toppled and about five months since Mursi took office, Egypt has no permanent constitution, which must be in place before new parliamentary elections are held.

An assembly drawing up the constitution has yet to complete its work. Many liberals, Christians and others have walked out accusing the Islamists who dominate it of ignoring their voices over the extent that Islam should be enshrined in the new state.

In 2013, the company is setting its sights on conquering Europe. To that end, 500px tells TechCrunch it just acquired Pulpfingers, a Strasbourg, France-based startup that makes iOS apps. It's mainly an acqui-hire deal, which we're told was an all-stock transaction -- Pulpfingers' two man founding team of David Charlec and Jerome Scheer will continue to operate the Pulpfingers app for the next several months as they transition to full-time roles working on the 500px platform. Diplomacy pushes Gaza peace momentum forward

JERUSALEM (AP) ?

A diplomatic push to end Israel's nearly weeklong offensive in the Gaza Strip gained momentum Tuesday, with Egypt's president predicting that airstrikes would soon end, the U.S. secretary of state racing to the region and Israel's prime minister saying his country would be a "willing partner" to a cease-fire with the Islamic militant group Hamas.

As international diplomats worked to cement a deal, a senior Hamas official said an agreement was close even as relentless airstrikes and rocket attacks between the two sides continued. The Israeli death toll rose to five with the deaths Tuesday of an Israeli soldier and a civilian contractor. More than 130 Palestinians have been killed.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton held a late-night meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after rushing to the region from Cambodia, where she had accompanied President Barack Obama on a visit.

"The goal must be a durable outcome that promotes regional stability and advances the security and legitimate aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians alike," she said at a news conference with Netanyahu.

Netanyahu said Israel would welcome a diplomatic solution to the crisis but threatened further military activity, saying he was ready to take "whatever action" is necessary.

The comments came after conflicting reports on whether a deal was imminent.

"We haven't struck the deal yet, but we are progressing and it will most likely be tonight," Moussa Abu Marzouk said earlier Tuesday from Cairo, where cease-fire talks were being held. A second Hamas official, Izzat Risheq, said later that a deal might not be reached.

Israeli officials said only that "intensive efforts" were under way to end the fighting. Israeli media quoted Defense Minister Ehud Barak as telling a closed meeting that Israel wanted a 24-hour test period of no rocket fire to see if Hamas could enforce a truce.

In what appeared to be a last-minute burst of heavy fire, Israeli tanks and gunboats shelled targets late Tuesday, and an airstrike killed two brothers riding on a motorcycle. The men weren't identified.

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, perhaps the most important interlocutor between Hamas, which rules the Palestinian territory, and the Israelis, said the negotiations between the two sides would yield "positive results" during the coming hours.

Israel demands an end to rocket fire from Gaza and a halt to weapons smuggling into Gaza through tunnels under the border with Egypt. It also wants international guarantees that Hamas will not rearm or use Egypt's Sinai region, which abuts both Gaza and southern Israel, to attack Israelis.

Hamas wants Israel to halt all attacks on Gaza and lift tight restrictions on trade and movement in and out of the territory that have been in place since Hamas seized Gaza by force in 2007. Israel has rejected such demands in the past.

In Brussels, a senior official of the European Union's foreign service said a cease-fire would include an end of Israeli airstrikes and targeted killings in Gaza, the opening of Gaza crossing points and an end to rocket attacks on Israel. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Violence raged on as the talks continued. An airstrike late Tuesday killed two journalists who work for the Hamas TV station, Al-Aqsa, according to a statement from the channel. The men were in a car hit by an airstrike, Gaza health official Ashraf al-Kidra said. Israel claims that many Hamas journalists are involved in militant activities. Earlier this week it targeted the station's offices, saying it served as a Hamas communications post.

By Tuesday, 133 Palestinians, including at least 54 civilians, were killed since Israel began an air onslaught that has so far included nearly 1,500 strikes. Some 840 people have been wounded, including 225 children, Gaza health officials said.

Five Israelis, including an 18-year-old soldier and a civilian contractor who worked for the military struck by rocket fire Tuesday, have also been killed and dozens wounded since the fighting began last week, the numbers possibly kept down by a rocket-defense system that Israel developed with U.S. funding. More than 1,000 rockets have been fired at Israel this week, the military said.

Late Tuesday, a Palestinian rocket hit a house in the central Israeli city of Rishon Lezion, wounding two people and badly damaging the top two floors of the building, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. In other violence, a 60-year-old Israeli woman was seriously wounded in a firebombing attack as she drove in the West Bank, police said.

With the death toll rising, the international community stepped up efforts to bring a halt to the fighting that began last Wednesday with an Israel's assassination of the Hamas military chief.

"If a long-term solution can be put in place through diplomatic means, then Israel would be a willing partner to such a solution. But if stronger military action proves necessary to stop the constant barrage of rockets, Israel wouldn't hesitate to do what is necessary to defend our people," Netanyahu said during a joint press conference in Jerusalem with visiting U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon.

Ban condemned Palestinian rocket attacks, but urged Israel to show "maximum restraint."

"Further escalation benefits no one," he said.

Minutes before Ban's arrival in Jerusalem from Egypt, Palestinian militants fired a rocket toward Jerusalem, just the second time it has targeted the city. The rocket fell in an open area southeast of the city.

Jerusalem had previously been considered beyond the range of Gaza rockets ? and an unlikely target because it is home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam's third-holiest shrine.

Earlier Tuesday, a man identified as Hamas' militant commander urged his fighters to keep up attacks on Israel. Speaking from hiding on Hamas-run TV and radio, Mohammed Deif said Hamas "must invest all resources to uproot this aggressor from our land," a reference to Israel.

Israeli warplanes dropped leaflets on several Gaza neighborhoods asking residents to evacuate and head toward the center of Gaza City along specific roads. The army "is not targeting any of you, and doesn't want to harm you or your families," the leaflets said. Palestinian militants urged residents to ignore the warnings, calling them "psychological warfare."

The Israeli military relies on a network of informants to identify its targets. Masked gunmen publicly shot dead six suspected collaborators with Israel in a large Gaza City intersection Tuesday, witnesses said. An Associated Press reporter saw a mob surrounding five of the bloodied corpses shortly after the killing.

Clinton was also scheduled to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank and Egyptian leaders in Cairo on Wednesday. Turkey's foreign minister and a delegation of Arab League foreign ministers traveled to Gaza on a separate truce mission. Airstrikes continued to hit Gaza even as they entered the territory.

"Turkey is standing by you," Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told the Hamas prime minister in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh. "Our demand is clear. Israel should end its aggression immediately and lift the inhumane blockade imposed on Gaza."

It was unclear how diplomatic efforts to achieve a cease-fire and stave off a threatened Israeli ground invasion into Gaza were hampered by the hard-to-bridge positions staked out by both sides ? and by the persistent attacks. Thousands of Israeli soldiers have been dispatched to the Gaza border in case of a decision to invade.

The U.S. considers Hamas, which has killed hundreds of Israelis in suicide and other attacks, to be a terror group and does not meet with its officials. The Obama administration blames Hamas for the latest eruption of violence and says Israel has the right to defend itself. At the same time, it has warned against a ground invasion, saying it could send casualties spiraling.

The conflict erupted last week, when a resurgence in rocket fire from Gaza set off the Israeli offensive, which included hundreds of airstrikes on militants' underground rocket launchers and weapons' stores.

The onslaught turned deadlier over the weekend, as airstrikes began targeting the homes of suspected Hamas activists, leading to a spike in civilian casualties. Hamas is deeply rooted in densely populated Gaza, and the movement's activists live in the midst of ordinary Gazans. Israel says militants are using civilians as human shields, both for their own safety and to launch rocket strikes from residential neighborhoods.

The conflict showed signs of spilling into the West Bank, as hundreds of Palestinian protesters in the town of Jenin clashed with Israeli forces during a demonstration against Israel's Gaza offensive.

Two Palestinian protesters were killed in anti-Israel demonstrations in the West Bank on Monday, according to Palestinian officials. Separate clashes occurred Tuesday in Ramallah, the seat of the Palestinian government, during the funeral for one of the dead.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who lost control of Gaza to Hamas in 2007, now governs from the West Bank. Abbas claims to represent both areas, and there is widespread sympathy among West Bank Palestinians for their brethren in Gaza.

Hacker Faces Prison for Not Hacking iPad

Five weeks after the release of the original 3G-enabled iPad in April 2010, Apple and AT&T suffered a massive data breach, exposing the email addresses of hundreds of thousands of early adopters.

The embarrassing breach was, in a way, one of AT&T's own making.

When a 3G iPad visited AT&T's website, the iPad transmitted a unique ID number and generated a new URL for the AT&T site, which in turn called up the user information associated with that ID number from AT&T's databases.

By the time the AT&T website loaded onto the iPad, the user would see his own email address, which he'd provided when he set up the iPad, already filled in on an AT&T webpage.

Plugging in the data

In early June, two hackers from a rogue group called Goatse Security, or GoatSec, discovered that by randomly guessing iPad IDs and plugging them into the URL, they could trick the AT&T site into coughing up customers' email addresses.

They wrote a script for a computer and harvested 114,000 addresses ? without ever breaking into anything or cracking a single password.

That last detail is important. Because of the way AT&T set up the service, the email addresses were already published and publicly available, though difficult to find.?

A analogy would be a webpage that no other pages link to. If you know its URL, you can find it, but otherwise the page remains hidden.

GoatSec contented that it had simply found and compiled information that was already online. And that information was dynamite.

It included the email addresses of prominent politicians and business leaders, including New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, ABC news anchor Diane Sawyer, entertainment mogul Harvey Weinstein and Rahm Emanuel, the current mayor of Chicago, who was at the time President Barack Obama's White House chief of staff.

After harvesting the emails, Goatsec allegedly tried to contact several people on the list who had email addresses connected to media organizations, in hopes of publicizing the case in the media, but found no takers.

AT&T said that at this point it learned of the breach from a customer, presumably one who had been contacted by Goatsec.

Publicizing the breach, but not the data

Goatsec turned to the media-gossip blog Gawker, which broke the story on June 9, 2010 after having received the full list directly from Goatsec. AT&T had already closed the security hole the previous day.

Neither GoatSec nor Gawker ever publicly released the sensitive information. Nevertheless, federal prosecutors in January 2011 charged the two GoatSec members, Andrew Auernheimer (aka "weev") and Daniel Spitler (aka "JacksonBrown"), with conspiracy to access a computer without authorization, a violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) of 1986, and fraud.

Spitler took a plea deal in June 2011, agreeing to help the prosecution in its case against Auernheimer. Auernheimer's trial began on Nov. 13 of this year and could end before Thanksgiving.

That short window has captured the attention of Internet activists and policy hounds. The case may finally bring clarity to the CFAA, a law that many activists and experts say contains overly broad language and a serious lack of definitions.

Critics say the CFAA drags too wide of a net, punishing minor mischief-makers and shady, but ultimately helpful, bug hunters.

The CFAA makes it illegal to "access a computer without authorization or exceed authorized access ... from [a] protected computer."

That may have made sense in 1986, before the advent of the Internet, but today, it's incredibly vague.

As TechCrunch pointed out, a "protected computer," defined as any computer that affects "interstate commerce or communication," pretty much includes every device with a microprocessor and a network connection.

While that ambiguity may have gotten Auernheimer into his current situation, it could also get him out of it.

Did Auernheimer "access a computer without authorization" when he sent working URL requests to the publicly available login page? How does the law define "access?" Is it the police, AT&T or the individual iPad owners who grant authorization? It's not clear.

If the case isn't settled before Thursday, it could potentially go all the way to the Supreme Court.

So far, the Fourth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal have given the law a narrow definition that would have excluded Auernheimer's actions from criminal liability. But the Fifth, Seventh and Eleventh Circuit courts allowed a broader interpretation.

Even if convicted, though, Auernheimer may still have the last move. GoatSec promised to release the keys to an encrypted "insurance file" if Auernheimer is convicted.

GoatSec said the information within is unrelated to the iPad incident, but beyond that, the contents are a mystery.

Solidoodle 3 goes up for pre-orders with 512 cubic inches of 3D printing prowess

Solidoodle 3 arrives with 512 cubic inches of 3D printing prowess

The potential for home 3D printing has regularly been limited by size; even MakerBot's Replicator 2 can only go so far in matching our ambitions. Solidoodle sees that deficit as a chance to make its name in a still very young industry. Its new Solidoodle 3 printer covers an extra two inches in every dimension than the Solidoodle 2, doubling the printable area to an extra-large 512 cubic inches. The 8-inch by 8-inch by 8-inch space isn't as long as what's inside the MakerBot challenger, but it's larger overall and improves on Solidoodle-built ancestors with a newer spool that cuts back on tangles in the plastic filament. Should any projects be too big for existing 3D printers' britches, the Solidoodle 3 is up for pre-order today at a size-appropriate $799. Do brace for a long wait, however: at 8-10 weeks before shipping, the company doesn't expect any deliveries until January.

U.N.'s Ban to visit Egypt for talks on Monday

CAIRO (Reuters) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will arrive in Egypt on Monday for talks with the Egyptian president and other officials, the foreign ministry reported on Sunday.

Egypt has been working to reinstate a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants after one it brokered in October collapsed.

President Mohamed Mursi said on Saturday there were "some indications" a deal could come soon but added he did not have guarantees.

The foreign ministry statement did not give details about Ban's planned discussions, only saying he would talk about regional issues. He is scheduled to meet Mursi on Tuesday before leaving Egypt.

Israel launched a massive air campaign on Wednesday with the declared goal of deterring Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group that runs the Gaza Strip, from launching rockets that have plagued its southern communities for years.

Israel bombed Palestinian militant targets in the Gaza Strip from air and sea for a fifth straight day on Sunday, preparing for a possible ground invasion while also spelling out its conditions for a truce.

Canada's Duhamel and Radford win silver medal at ISU Grand Prix

PARIS (Nov. 17, 2012) Meagan Duhamel of Lively, Ont., and Eric Radford of Balmertown, Ont., won the silver medal on Saturday in pairs at the fifth stop on the ISU Grand Prix figure skating circuit.

It was the second silver medal this season for the third-year pair. They posted the best score in Saturdays free skate with 124.43 points to finish at 186.71 and just fell short in catching gold medallists Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov of Russia who totalled 187.99. Stefania Berton and Ondrej Hotarek of Italy were third at 169.49.

Its a bittersweet result for us, said Duhamel. When you come so close to winning its a real heartbreaker. We lost a couple of levels in the long program and didnt finish as strong as we would have liked.

One of the mistakes at the end of the program for the Canadian champions was Duhamel falling on the throw. They also lost points for both their lifts.

The first lift we are not sure the reason for the deduction and we will have to review it, said Radford. The second one we had some balance issues. We usually have a lot of success with the throw so we are not sure why it didnt work out. Its at the end of the program so maybe we were feeling some fatigue.

Silver medallists at Skate Canada last month, Duhamel and Radford will likely qualify for the Grand Prix Final next month in Sochi, Russia, the host city for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

It was extremely important for us to get that opportunity to go to Sochi, said Radford. Just to get a feeling for the venue and the city will potentially be very beneficial.

In ice dancing, Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat of France took the gold with Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte of Italy second and Ekaterina Riazanova and Ilia Tkachenko of Russia third.

Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Toronto took sixth spot with a season best free skate to finish at 135.86.

We are improving each competition, said Gilles. The levels that we worked on in training after Skate Canada we nailed them here. I think we are still working the kinks out and our objective is having our programs down pat for the nationals.

Canada had no entries in the mens and womens competition.

NFL fines referee who cursed during Dolphins-Colts game

NEW YORK?

NFL Referee Tony Corrente has been fined one game check for uttering obscenities with his microphone on during the Nov. 4 game in Indianapolis between the Colts and Miami Dolphins.

In the fourth quarter of the game, Corrente inadvertently left his microphone open during a conference with members of the officiating crew.

Indy's defense had just been called for having 12 men on the field, and it appeared the question was about where to spot the ball.

As a second official called over to the referee, Corrente shouted "What in the f--- are you guys doing?"

That part was heard by the crowd of 66,479, but did not make it on the air.

The rest of the discussion did, including Corrente explaining the spot was correct by shouting "That was ? god---- it."

The fine was issued Friday by NFL officiating director Carl Johnson, who said the conduct ?is inappropriate for a game official.?

A referee of Corrente's experience earns approximately $9,000 a game.

Corrente has apologized to the Colts organization.

Yahoo To Cut Pay For 1 In 5 Employees - Business Insider

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is putting a plan in motion that will evaluate employees?and put one in five jobs at risk, reports Kara Swisher at AllThingsD.

The bottom 20 percent could see their pay cut or lose their jobs.

Yahoo has about 14,000 employees, so by the numbers, this move would affect 2,800 of them.

Here's how Mayer described the process in a company memo:

Moving forward, we will have both annual goals and quarterly goals that we will all commit to, track, and grade ourselves based on ? We will then cascade the goals down through the company at the department, team, and individual level ?

Mayer is also canceling Yahoo's annual "rest week," where the company shuts down between Christmas and New Year's.

Some will say that these measures still don't go far enough. Former Yahoo Sriram Krishnan argued this summer that Yahoo needs to fire 10,000 people.

Parting Schotts: NFL Pregame Shows Week 11 Sound Bites: NFL Network's 'Thursday Night Kickoff'

Here are the sound bites from NFL Network's "Thursday Night Kickoff" pregame show. The quotes are provided by the NFL Network PR department.

New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis? 1-on-1 Interview with Andrea Kremer

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis joins NFL Network?s Andrea Kremer for an interview on his rehabilitation process from a torn ACL and the current state of the team.

On where he is at in his rehab:
?Right now I?m doing great. I got my range of motion back and everything is looking on the up and up right now. I just have to continue to keep on rehabbing and go to the next steps. Thanksgiving is coming up so I?ll still be here [in New Jersey]. After that I?ll head out to Arizona.?

On where he is with the amount of swelling and degree of flexion:
?My range of motion is back to normal. I have all of the flexion and range of motion back. Right now it?s just to continue to focus on my knee. I do have a little bit of swelling; it?s going down rapidly but just continue to focus on that. Then head out to Arizona with my personal trainer to finish there with the rehabbing and lifting on my leg.?

On why the Jets are 3-6:
?We?re in a tough spot right now where we?re at. I see these guys when I?m over there rehabbing every now and then, and I just try to encourage them. I just really do as much as I can being one of the leaders on the team. Right now I can?t really pinpoint what?s really wrong because I?m on the outside viewing in. The only thing I can do right now is really support these guys as much as I can and just hope they win every week.?

On the news surrounding the Jets this week:
?This week has been a tough week for the team. A team like this with what?s been going on this week, a team will fold. The biggest thing for us is to overcome everything that?s going on right now through the media, through the losing streak. If we can get a win this week, that would be awesome. It would turn things around, that would give the team momentum for the upcoming weeks to win those games as well.?

On what the Jets should do with quarterback Tim Tebow:
?Those [decisions] are not in my hands. That?s Mike Tannenbaum?s job. He?s the GM and he has to make those tough decisions. I?m happy I don?t.?

To view the entire interview, click here.

Quick Quotes:

- ?He sent Reggie Bush a message: ?You will not be here next year.?? ? Deion Sanders on the impact of Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin?s decision to sit running back Reggie Bush last week

- ?When he?s good, there is nobody better at change of direction [runs].? ? Mike Mayock on Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush

He will land somewhere else and he will be Philadelphia?s worst nightmare.? ? Steve Mariucci on Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid?s future

- ?Last week?s loss by Atlanta [actually] solidified to me they are the top team in the NFC. Atlanta did not go away. They had an opportunity to win the game on the last play.? ? Michael Irvin on the 8-1 Atlanta Falcons who suffered their first loss last week

- ?The Saints are dangerous and scary because [teams] look at their 0-4 start and think ?bad team.?? ? Marshall Faulk on the 4-5 New Orleans Saints

- ?They may not need a quarterback in San Francisco. That?s how good that defense is.? ? Michael Irvin on the San Francisco 49ers possibly playing without quarterback Alex Smith

What is a Lip Tie? ? Surviving Motherhood

by Jennie on November 15, 2012

Lip TieLip Tie

You are looking at it. As you read this we will be heading on a plane from Albany, NY to home. Why you ask? WELL, a few weeks ago I read an article from Ashley (an AMAZING Lactation Consultant, owner of Blue Cocoon) about Tongue Ties. I think we have all heard about this, but included in the article was something called Lip Tie. Something drew me to the article as soon as I saw that name. I had an inkling something was going on when Grayson got his teeth just a few months ago. You couldn?t see his teeth when he smiled. When I read Ashley?s article, I knew right away that it is what Grayson had. It is called a Lip Tie, pictured above.

VERY LONG story short, we had to go to Albany, NY to see Dr. Kotlow so that my little man could get his Lip Tie fixed. I have done a lot of research and talked to many different people about it and once I am home, I will write a complete post about everything! I want to bring awareness to this, in hopes that I can shed some light on the topic that it seems few people are talking about. I will say that little Grayson?s lip tie is a pretty severe case and so severe action needed to be taken, thus our road trip to NY :) I know this is not the case for everyone. I am writing this on Monday, so I hope to know more after we see the doctor in NY and hope that I can have more answers for you.

If there is anyone reading this who suspects their child has the same thing, please start doing some research and check back often, as I hope to have more information posted for you. Feel free to leave a comment with your email and I will make sure you get the next post. Also, if you have any information on lip tie or have your own personal story, please leave a comment or email me at jennieandkim@gmail.com. You can also check out Ashley?s fb page she just started on lip and tongue tied.

Presidents' kids talk about White House life

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? Whether it was to sneak a first kiss or listen to Led Zeppelin, climbing onto the roof of the White House was apparently a popular practice among a few presidents' children.

Steve Ford garnered laughs during a panel discussion Thursday with fellow children of former presidents as he recalled dragging a stereo onto the roof with a friend his first night there in 1974.

A teenager at the time his father took office, he said, "I think we were playing like Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven.' Literally, it was like 'Dumb and Dumber.'"

Jenna Bush Hager later told Ford, "You can still get up on that roof, because I had my first kiss with my husband up there."

Her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush, and Lynda Johnson Robb also spoke during the conference, which is part of a series focusing on the nation's first ladies. But Thursday's event was the first in which their children have participated, offering a different perspective about life in the White House.

The conference, "The Enduring Legacies of America's First Ladies," was hosted by the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin and was presented by American University and the White House Historical Association.

Ford noted that his family got to the White House in a "different way." His father was appointed vice president after the resignation of Spiro Agnew, and then became president after the resignation of Richard Nixon.

He noted that Nixon's presidency ended so abruptly that the Nixon family's possessions were still being packed after Ford was sworn in, so the Ford family returned to their suburban Washington home for several days.

After his father was sworn in, his mother, Betty Ford, fixed the family dinner.

"She looks over at my dad and says, 'Gerry, something's wrong here. You just became president of the United States and I'm still cooking,'" he said.

He also talked of his parents' deep devotion to each other, noting their decision to frankly talk about Betty Ford's breast cancer diagnosis just weeks after he became president.

"I can remember them holding hands and standing in front of the press and saying, 'We're going to take the shame off of this disease,' which was a closet disease for women back in 1974," Ford said.

When his mother expressed concern after her diagnosis about wearing evening gowns, Ford said, his father told her: "Betty, come on, don't be silly. If you can't wear cut low in the front, wear cut low in the back."

When asked to reveal something the crowd might not know about their mothers, Robb said her mother was a big "Gunsmoke" fan and noted that state dinners could interfere with her mother's viewings, so her father came up with a solution.

"Somehow he got WACA, that's the White House Communications Agency, to find a way to tape 'Gunsmoke' for mom," she said.

Other conferences have been hosted in Texas by the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas and the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station. The next conference will be held in the spring at the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The conference ended with a panel featuring former first ladies Barbara Bush and Laura Bush during which the two revealed former President George W. Bush has taken up painting.

"And he's good, that's the most extraordinary thing," his mother said.

His wife replied, "The truth is he gave up cigars and he had to find some pastime."

(AP) ? The 17-country eurozone has fallen back into recession for the first time in three years as the fallout from the region's financial crisis was felt from Amsterdam to Athens.

And with surveys pointing to increasingly depressed conditions across the 17-member group that uses the euro at a time of high unemployment in many countries, there are fears that the recession will deepen, and make the debt crisis ? which has been calmer of late ? even more difficult to handle.

Official figures Thursday showed that the eurozone contracted by 0.1 percent in the July to September period from the quarter before as economies including Germany and the Netherlands suffer from falling demand.

The decline reported by Eurostat, the EU's statistics office, was in line with market expectations and follows on from the 0.2 percent fall recorded in the second quarter. As a result, the eurozone is officially in recession, commonly defined as two straight quarters of falling output.

"The eurozone economy will continue its decline in Q4 and probably well into 2013 too ? a good backdrop for another debt crisis," said Michael Taylor, an economist at Lombard Street Research.

Because of the eurozone's grueling three-year debt crisis, the region has been the major focus of concern for the world economy. The eurozone economy is worth around ?9.5 trillion, or $12.1 trillion, which puts it on a par with the U.S.. The region, with its 332 million people, is the U.S.'s largest export customer, and any fall-off in demand will hit order books.

While the U.S has managed to bounce back from its own savage recession in 2008-09, albeit inconsistently, and China continues to post strong growth, Europe's economies have been on a downward spiral ? and there is little sign of any improvement in the near-term.

The eurozone had managed to avoid returning to recession for the first time since the financial crisis following the collapse of U.S. investment bank Lehman Brothers, mainly thanks to the strength of its largest single economy, Germany.

But even that country is now struggling as confidence wanes and exports drain in light of the economic problems afflicting large chunks of the eurozone.

Germany's economy grew 0.2 percent in the third quarter, down from a 0.3 percent increase in the previous quarter. Over the past year, Germany's annual growth rate has more than halved to 0.9 percent from 1.9 percent.

Perhaps the most dramatic decline among the eurozone's members was seen in the Netherlands, whose economy shrank 1.1 percent on the previous quarter.

Five eurozone countries are in recession ? Greece, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Cyprus. Those five are also at the center of Europe's debt crisis and are imposing austerity measures, such as cuts to wages and pensions and increases to taxes, in an attempt to stay afloat.

As well as hitting workers' incomes and living standards, these measures have also led to a decline in economic output and a sharp increase in unemployment.

Spain and Greece have unemployment rates of over 25 percent. Their young people are faring even worse with every other person out of work. As well as being a cost to governments who have to pay out more for benefits, it carries a huge social and human cost.

Protests across Europe on Wednesday highlighted the scale of discontent and with economic surveys pointing to the downturn getting worse, the voices of anger may well get louder still.

"The likelihood is that this anger will continue to grow unless European leaders and policymakers start to act as if they have a clue as to how to resolve the crisis starting to unravel before their eyes," said Michael Hewson, markets analyst at CMC Markets.

Europe has no doubt made some progress this year in allaying some of the worst fears in the markets, notably through the announcement of new bond-buying program from the European Central Bank. However, with Greece still teetering on the edge and the eurozone in recession, the economic storms are never far away.

Mario Draghi, the ECB's president has been widely credited for helping foster the more optimistic tone in the markets but he admits there's still a long way to go.

"The year that is about to end will be remembered not only for the effects the European sovereign debt crisis has had on the euro and for the significant weakening of the European economy, but also for the responses to these challenges by the ECB, national governments and the European Union," he said in a speech at Univerisita Bocconi in Milan.

"Ultimately, it is up to governments to dispel once and for all the persistent uncertainties that markets perceive and citizens fear," Draghi added.

The wider 27-nation EU, which includes non-euro countries, avoided the same recession fate as the eurozone. Eurostat said the EU's output rose 0.1 percent during the third quarter, largely on the back of an Olympics-related boost in Britain.

The EU's output as a whole is greater than the U.S. It is also a major source of sales for the world's leading companies. Forty percent of McDonald's global revenue comes from Europe - more than it generates in the U.S. General Motors, meanwhile, sold 1.7 million vehicles in Europe last year, a fifth of its worldwide sales.

Zimbabwe budget: Economic growth to slow in 2013

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) ? Zimbabwe's finance minister forecasts a slower economic growth rate caused by political tensions as the nation prepares for elections next year.

Finance Minister Tendai Biti said when presenting the national budget to parliament Thursday that Zimbabweans must brace for a "gnashing of teeth" as economic growth forecast at 9.8 percent for 2012 will decline to 5 percent in 2013.

Biti allocated $3.8 billion to government spending with more than half going to civil servants' salaries.

He warned against violence in the upcoming elections that could lead to a collapse of the "economic foundation" achieved by the four-year-old coalition between Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF and the Movement for Democratic Change. He said political uncertainty has scared away foreign direct investment.

Biti is a former opposition politician in the coalition.

Facebook launches 'LinkedIn-type' app

SYDNEY: Facebook has launched a new application that connects candidates with job vacancies and recruiters on the world's largest social networking site.

The new service claims more than 1.7 million jobs from partners including Monster Worldwide and BranchOut, the company said on its website.

"Facebook is all about connecting people and we're thrilled to see developers leveraging our platform to connect job seekers and prospective employers," Marne Levine, Facebook's vice president for global public policy, said in a statement.

"By allowing job seekers to view and share job openings based on personalised criteria, like location and industry, the Social Jobs Application builds on our broader effort to help people use social media to find jobs in the US," Levine added.

The online app follows Facebook's introduction of the Social Jobs Partnership last year with the US Department of Labor and other agencies, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

According to the paper, the new app by Facebook is a direct challenge to LinkedIn, the popular business social network.
