(WKTV) - Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter hoped to get the NFL's attention Monday in Washington,?D.C., with a huge banner with the Washington Redskins logo crossed off.

A meeting calling for a nickname change happened today at the same location as the league's fall meeting Washington.

A recent poll shows four out of five Americans don't think the team should change their name. Halbritter says the term Redskins is offensive to American Indians.

"We want the NFL team to succeed,"?Halbritter said. "We want Dan Snyder to succeed. But on the right terms with the right ideals that America stands for.

The NFL has made no comment.
